From the Pastor’s Desk
Look carefully at the cover of the bulletin today. Notice anything unusual? Certainly there are numerous images of Jesus. Surrounding the various images of Jesus are pictures of some familiar faces. People and crowds that reflect our own parish family. Today’s gospel confronts us with the familiar question, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” It would appear that most of us, who are people faith and who are familiar with Jesus might point to one or more of the images represented on the front of this bulletin and say, “That’s Him. That’s the Jesus I know and how I picture Him.” Some might respond as Peter did, “You are the Christ,” giving evidence to Jesus’ relationship to the Father and in the world. But in a very personal way...WHO DO YOU SAY THAT THE SON OF MAN IS? Jesus has many titles. He is known to us by what He does and who He is in relationship to God. We know Him as Jesus, Emmanuel, Teacher, Lord, Shepherd, Son, Christ Savior, Master, etc. We understand images of Light, Hope Peace, Love, Compassion as representations of who Jesus is as well. None of the titles, names, images fully can identify Jesus. Yet for us as people of faith He is reflected in every person we encounter, every event we experience, every breath that we breathe. Today, ask yourself this important question...WHO IS JESUS TO ME? Then seek to spend the rest of this day, this week, the rest of your life, doing all that you can to EXPLAIN Him, SHOW, Him, KNOW Him, LOVE Him and SERVE Him. It is my hope that when we meet Him we will recognize Him and never want to be without Him by our side.
God’s peace and my love and prayers, Father Michael

We, the Catholic faith community of Light of the World, desire to be the living sign of Christ by showing love for all who grace our door and respect for the gifts they bring. We commit ourselves to the dynamic worship of God in word and sacrament, so that empowered by the Spirit we may grow in confidence to prophetically impact our culture by living out the Gospel and serving the needs of our parish and our local and global communities. |
